GGFC Players Meet USWNT members at Pier 40

GGFC players with Christen Press, Carli Lloyd, and Ali Krieger

Gotham Girls FC had to unexpectedly cancel their recent Wednesday night practice at their home field, Pier 40 Rooftop, due to an event scheduled by Nike involving the USWNT.

The silver lining was that Hudson River Park Trust was able to arrange for some of the GGFC players to attend the event and meet with some of the USWNT players.

Christen Press, Carli Lloyd, and Ali Krieger definitely made up for the missed practice. They spoke with the girls about what it takes to reach the top level in soccer: the willingness to train and push yourself to the highest level consistently, along with one essential key ingredient, mental toughness. All three USWNT players were unanimous that mental toughness is necessary to transcend all obstacles, in sports and in life.

It was a great experience for the GGFC players. Our players are attending a club-wide outing this Saturday night at Red Bull Arena to cheer on the USWNT as they face Korea Republic in their final send off match before departing for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada.

This personal interaction with the USWNT players will only inspire our GGFC players to revel in the match on Saturday and always try to reach their fullest potential, both on and off the field.

Gotham Girls FC and Manhattan Soccer Club Alliance for the 2014/15 Season

We would like to share with everyone that GGFC and MSC are exploring an alliance for the 2014/15 season. The goal of an alliance between our two clubs is to make use of MSC’s operational support to improve day-to-day operations, to improve communication between GGFC club management and parents, and to increase the presence of GGFC in the soccer community.

Another goal of an alliance is to strengthen the experience for players on the field by capitalizing on the combined experience of GGFC’s Director of Coaching Manfred Kapper and MSC’s Director of Coaching Ray Selvadurai to continue to offer a strong soccer curriculum and to oversee progress on the field so that each team is receiving consistent, developmentally-appropriate soccer training and game-day coaching.

GGFC’s commitment to girls’ soccer and focus on player development will not change. GGFC players and teams, including our U16 boys team playing under the Gotham FC banner, will by and large continue to work with the same coaches. The alliance will allow GGFC and MSC to provide additional collaborative opportunities, such as guest playing at tournaments, joint practice sessions, skills clinics and social events. The alliance will also provide a geographically more convenient option for families in the downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn communities who would benefit the combined strength of GGFC and MSC. Both GGFC and MSC are very excited about the potential of an alliance and the opportunity to better serve you!
